Can QR Codes Expire?
Static QR codes do not expire by themselves, but the content or website they point to can disappear, change or stop working.
Static codes and expiry
A static QR code contains fixed information. If it contains plain text, that text remains readable indefinitely as long as the image can be scanned. If it contains a website link, the code will still contain the link, but the website itself may stop working.
Dynamic codes and provider dependency
Dynamic QR codes depend on a redirect service. They may stop working if the account is cancelled, the provider changes terms, or the redirect domain goes offline.
How to make QR codes last longer
Use stable URLs, keep control of your domain name, avoid unnecessary redirects and store the original QR files safely. For print campaigns, keep a record of where each code was used.
What to check before printing
Before printing large quantities, test the destination, confirm the domain renewal is secure and decide whether you need a static or dynamic code.
Create your QR code
